Resumen

Mexico possesses innumerable cultural riches that are in constant manipulation by different actors. One of such riches is the regional musical art, which has been displaced by foreign popular expressions. In the State of Chihuahua there are artistic expressions that identify with its society, that are coherent with its history, its culture and the lives of its people. This is the case with the musical style of the town of Nonoava, which emerged in the mountains of Chihuahua more than one hundred years ago, and which is still alive today. The present work has as its purpose the rescue and promotion of the musical identity of the mountains of Nonoava. The musical identity of said town will be reevaluated and characterized through an academic labor of musical analysis and comprehension. It is the intention of this work to investigate and gain a deep knowledge of the traditional music of the town of Nonoava. This interaction poses the rescuing and valorization of a musical aesthetic native to Chihuahua that still prevails. The work is divided in three parts; in the first one, the importance of studying and valuing the traditional music of Mexican towns is problematized; in the second part, the music that germinated at the turn of the twentieth century in the State of Chihuahua is identified and analyzed; a music that became popular during the Mexican Revolution and which is believed to have been amply influential on the music of Nonoava; in the third part, three musical recordings from characteristic Nonoavan groups are analyzed, with the purpose of revaluing some aesthetic musical elements germane to the style.
