Resumen

The Cactaceae family is distinguished by its adaptability in arid environments. Being Mexico its center of diversification; however, it lacks basic ecological information. Such is the case of Coryphantha chihuahuensis, reported in shrublands of the state of Chihuahua. The objective of this study was to determine the fundamental niche of C. chihuahuensis as well as its biotic tolerance range through plant association and to estimate its abundance. For this, 20 sites were sampled in the field with presence of the species. In order to determine its fundamental niche, three models with different combinations of variables were used. The algorithm used was MaxEnt. The range of tolerance and abundance were analyzed in plots of 100 m2, taking as central axes the same 20 records. Assessment of existing species (shrubs, herbaceous, grasses and cacti) was carried out and C. chihuahuensis were quantified. The results show the model of the fundamental niche to the center and south of the state, with a probability of occurrence of 70 to 100% to the center. Floristically, a total of 25 families, 51 genera and 70 species were obtained. The most likely presence was the 40% shrub, followed by 21% grass, 20% herbaceous and 18% cacti. The abundance estimate for C. chihuahuensis is six plants per 100 m2.
