Resumen

Folliculogenesis and spermatogenesis are biological processes aimed at the development and differentiation of oocytes and sperm. They are controlled tightly regulated by genetic and hormonal mechanisms. The Ashwin gene has proven to be a candidate gene potentially involved in the programming of these processes. Analysis of the expression of this gene by RT-PCR showed a significant expression of this gene in ovarian and testicular tissue. Furthermore expression in various stages of early embryo development is similar to that identified in maternal effect genes that are expressed only in oocytes and embryos at 2-4 cell. This supports the potential importance of protein in reproductive processes, but it requires further information to help generate understanding the functional relevance of this protein in the ovary and testis. This paper applies the techniques of in situ hybridization and immunohistochemistry, performed in histological sections of fetal and adult ovary and testis to answer this question. Together both methods allowed us to identify histological ovarian and adult and fetal testis expression Ashwin to transcript level, but especially its protein is synthesized specifically in the various stages of development and maturation of the oocyte (primordial follicle germinal, primary, secondary and Graff). In testis protein it was identified specifically in spermatogonia in the fetal testis and primary, secondary spermatids and spermatocytes in adult tissue. Taken together our observations support the hypothesis that protein Ashwin in the ovary and testis is related to the identification, development and differentiation of germ cells like eggs and sperm.
