Resumen

The first objective was to analyze financial and production indicators in cattle fattening; the second was to develop and to implement a computer model to simulate scenarios. Two biological types of Angus steers were used, American (AS) (n = 39) and European (ES) (n = 38). In each case, they were divided into two replicates, with average weights of 401 and 368 kg for ES and 218 and 267 kg for AS. The indicators evaluated were daily gain weight (DGW), feed intake (FI), feed conversion (FC), carcass production (CP), days in fattening (DF), utility per cycle (UC), annualized utility (AU) and benefit/cost (B/C). For the second objective, a system was developed in Visual Basic.NET. Scenarios were analyzed as national sales (NS), export and pre conditioning for auction at 25 and 75 d. For ES, the indicators of B/C, UC and AU were 0.23, $ 4,366 and 53.3 %, and for AS were 0.38, $ 6.177 and 69.7 %. The indicators DF, DGW, FI, FC, CP for the two replicates for ES were 155 and 155 d, 1.13 and 1.45 kg/d, 11.7 and 11.1 kg/d, 10.4 and 7.6 kg/kg, 56.4 and 56.3 %. For AS were 200 and 200 d, 1.4 and 1.5 kg / d, 10.6 and 10.3 kg / d, 57.9 and 58.4%. Data generated with the case of study allowed an adecuate analysis of different alternative scenarios. Working with animals of low initial weight allows the analysis of more alternatives in order the select the most profitable one
