Resumen

Forest ecosystems are important carbon reservoirs on the planet. The objective of this research was to estimate the carbon content (C) stored in a temperate forest in the Bocoyna region, Chihuahua. Through spectral information of satellite images versus the dasometric variables of a temperate forest, predictive maps of C were generated. An image of the Landsat OLI8 sensor was used, as well as field inventory data. For the generation of the predictive models of carbon and wood volume, multivariate techniques such as correlation and linear regression analysis were used, spectral data were considered as dependent variable and dasometric variables as independent. According to the results obtained, the bands that estimate the forest variables more accurately (C in Ton*ha-1 and Vol. In m3*ha-1) were bands 4 and 6, with adjusted coefficients of determination of R2adj=80.9 and R2adj=79.4 respectively. The spectral ranges of both bands allowed to obtain more consistent statistics to explain the spatial distribution of Vol. (M3 * ha-1) and C (Ton * ha-1). The use of remote sensors such as Landsat images, provide basic information at the pixel level, which can be related to forest variables to build models that predict the spatial distribution of forest attributes with a good level of precision. These models can support forest management, to carry out best practices in the sustainable conservation of the forest.
