Resumen

The effect of three curing methods (immersion, waterproof membrane and steam) in the corrosion rate of high strength concrete beams armed with two reinforced steel rods, with a water/cement ratio of 0.40 and cover thickness of 4 cm, are exposed in synthetic water (ASTM 1141-98) by cycles of 7 days by immersion and 7 days dry, during a total of 180 days. The corrosion rates were obtained by electrochemical techniques of corrosion monitoring, linear polarization resistance (LPR) and electrochemical noise (EN). According to the obtained results, the curing methods that keep the wet state longer in the concrete have a better performance in terms of resistance to corrosion because they contain more water and microstructural space available for the hydration of portland cement. Even when the curing process has been controlled, the analysis of the corrosion rates indicates that the method of steam curing, even though it has the characteristic of rapidly drying the concrete, waiting for a strong change in the microstructure of the concrete matrix, is the most apt to start of the corrosion of the reinforced bars.
