Resumen

The signage that stands out in some facades of commercial buildings carries the name channel letters. The three main elements they consist of are: backplate, face and return. In order to manufacture both the backplate and the face, the use of CNC (computer numerical control) equipment is common. However, in the city of Chihuahua, Chih. the bending of the returns is done (almost entirely) with hand tools. Departing from this situation, it is proposed to improve the manufacturing process of channel letters with the incorporation of a system capable of automatically bending the returns. This thesis describes the development of a modular electromechanical system for automatic bending of the sheets forming the return of a channel letter. This system incorporates temperature and vibration sensors that allow the operator to know the current state of the equipment. When comparing this system with the manual manufacturing it was demonstrated that its use improves the manufacturing time, and the quality of the final product.
